Description

I'm reluctant to admit it, but Kolk is a multi-incarnation character. He started his life as a concept for a friend to use as part of a Nazi-themed resistance narrative - the idea of a group of Nazis covertly working against the Reich, like in Schindler's List, but doing it with guerilla activity and covert violence and code names instead of with black-and-white film and a million oscars. It was based on a supposedly-real story of Dutch boys forming sabotage gangs, breaking up and travelling around Holland and reforming in different locations, using their youth and general interchangeability to create a sort of counter-Nazi terror cell.

Kolk then moved into City of Heroes as a concept, where I couldn't make him; then he moved on from there to a variety of other sources, including being an NPC in a game I ran. The core of the character remains the same - someone with a powerful religious upbringing against which he rebels and becomes a secret warrior, opposing something bigger and more dangerous than himself with clever terrorist tactics.

Kolk, visually, owes a lot to Klavier Gavin in Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice, a game series I love to bits in no small part because of its quirky characters. Kolk is another character meant to fit in Nightspass; if Nightspass is taking the extant Zeldaverse and putting it in a later stage of adolesence, part of that will be excessive displays of badassery, of sex and violence and revenge. We've all had adolescent fantasies like that - the point of Kolk is to handle such things tastefully, or at least in an interesting fashion.
